Georgia Highway Contractors Association Partnering With Latin American Association for Road Construction Job Fair on March 16

ATLANTA, GA (March 5, 2019) The Georgia Highway Contractors Association (GHCA) is partnering with the Latin American Association to host a job fair for those interested in a career in road construction. The fair will take place Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Latin American Association in Atlanta, 2750 Buford Highway, N.E.

Twelve metro Atlanta-area highway contractors are participating in the job fair as they gear up for their busy season which begins in early spring with the onset of warmer temperatures. Contractors are currently hiring men and women for a range of road construction job types and experience levels. The industry offers full-time employment, excellent pay and benefits, and the opportunity to advance.

The job fair is being held as a part of the GHCA Fast Lane to Jobs campaign which is helping to raise awareness about the need for highway construction workers throughout the state. Thanks to the passage of the nearly $1 billion-a-year transportation funding bill in 2015 by the Georgia Legislature, the increase in road projects means that Georgia’s highway contractors currently have hundreds of jobs to fill.

¿Estas en búsqueda de tu próxima carrera? Hay una buena probabilidad que el primer “gerente de empleo” que vea tu currículo no sea un humano, pero mas bien un sistema de seguimiento para solicitantes, o ATS.

El uso de estos sistemas de aprendizaje maquinarias para ordenar currículos a crecido enormemente durante los últimos años. Según un reporte de 2018 por Jobscan, 98 por ciento de las empresas Fortuna 500 ahora usan ATS mientras dos tercios de empresas grandes en general usan estos sistemas.

¿Que es ATS?

Cada vez que envías una solicitud de empleo en línea, o adjuntas un currículo para subir o enviar por correo electrónico a una empresa prospectiva, el departamento de contratación puede que use un sistema de ATS para escanear tu currículo. Con cientos o hasta miles de solicitantes, el sistema ahorra tiempo y recursos en ordenar solicitantes sin cualificaciones inteligentemente de entre quienes fueron elegidos para una posible entrevista.

Dra. Ana Stanescu, profesora asistente de ciencias de la computación en la Universidad de West Georgia, a investigado el desarrollo de algoritmo para sistemas de aprendizaje maquinarías tan complejos. Ella dice que modificar tu currículo para cada llamada de empleo en especifico es mas importante que nunca.

“Estos sistemas buscan palabras clave en un currículo para asegurar que el solicitante concuerda con las cualificaciones deseadas,” explica Stanescu. “Pero identificar palabras clave no es lo único que hacen. Los sistemas también usan datos grandes para aprender de la historia de empleados anteriores.”

Por ejemplo, empresas grandes puede que usen ATS para analizar los currículos de sus empleados mas exitosos, en búsqueda de experiencias parecidas o intereses entre solicitantes actuales. Inclinaciones como edad, raza, o preferencia de género pueden ser mitigados ya que el sistema ordena solicitantes mucho antes del contacto humano.

De esta forma, un ATS sirve como un guardián muy efectivo que nunca a tenido un mal día y nunca necesita un receso. Tu trabajo como solicitante es pasar este guardián, y eso requiere tomar ciertos pasos para asegurar que tu currículo supere ATS.

Dra. Duane Yoder, profesora asociada de ciencias de la computación en UWG, recomienda dejar tu currículo simple y organizado para que el sistema lo pueda leer. Los días de plantillas elaboradas y demostraciones de habilidades en diseño grafico en tu currículo quedaron atrás a favor de uso consistente de titulares, viñetas, fuentes comunes y sin gráficos.

Aunque parezca tentador arrojar múltiples currículos a múltiples empresas, ATS probablemente se desacedara de currículos tan genéricos mas rápido de lo que puedas darle “ENVIAR”.

“Cada empresa puede personalizar las palabras distintas y frases que quieran que su ATS haga resaltar,” dice Yoder.

El aconseja que secciones muy genéricas como “metas de carrera” o “objetivos de carrera” deben de ser esquivadas a favor de agregar habilidades mas especificas basadas en el lenguaje especifico del llamado de empleo.

“Incluir habilidades como “colaborador” o “habilidades de comunicación excelentes” generalmente no significaran mucho para un ATS,” dice Yoder. “Estas son habilidades que puedas presentar o que se notaran en tu entrevista, pero debes de llegar ahí primero.”

Hacer un currículo que llame la atención para esa primera entrevista es una gran parte de lo que están entrenados hacer en los servicios de carrera en UWG.

Ian Houston, especialista del desarrollo de carreras en UWG, tiene experiencia práctica en lo que las empresas están buscando en un currículo.

“Nosotros continuamente trabajamos con empresas para averiguar lo que quieren en un currículo de solicitante,” dice Houston.

El recomienda personalizar cada currículo basado en la empresa prospectiva y llamada de empleo para pasar la filtración de ATS, y la terminología deseada puede sermuy especifica basada en cultura de empresa.

Como un reto adicional, empresas no necesariamente mencionan cada palabra clave o frase que su software ATS esta programada buscar, así que debes de investigar la empresa cuidadosamente.

“Si estas aplicando para una posición de director, la llamada de empleo no necesariamente describirá la posición en toda su dimensión,” dice Houston. “Esta es una razón por la cual es importante entender la posición plenamente e investigar antes de aplicar.”

Parecido a Yoder en ciencias de la computación, Houston sugiere esquivar secciones no especifico en tu currículo como “metas de carrera”.  Mas bien, el sugiere una sección de apertura como “perfil de carrera” o “resumen ejecutiva”.

“Esta sección sirve como una carta de presentación en miniatura en donde tu exhibes habilidades que tal vez no estén incluidos en tu sección de experiencias,” dice Houston. “Es lo primero que vera un gerente después de que a pasado el ATS, y debes de capturar su atención de inmediato. Es un buen lugar para presentar tus habilidades transferibles o suaves mientras que el cuerpo del currículo se enfoca en habilidades especificas y técnicas.”

Reports to:    General Manager
