Have you noticed a red street lane in Downtown Atlanta? Here's what it's for

If you’ve wondered what it’s for, 11Alive went straight to officials to get the answer.

ATLANTA — You may have seen it recently: a street lane on Mitchell Street painted red in Downtown Atlanta.

If you’ve wondered what it’s for, 11Alive went straight to officials to get the answer.

MARTA said the bright red is for a brand-new bus-only lane for MARTA’s Rapid A-Line, Atlanta’s first bus rapid transit line.

Phase One launches next month on April 18. The first phase will provide service from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. with a $2.50 fee. Transfers will be free.

According to MARTA’s website, its Rapid A-Line will provide a 5-mile round-trip route that connects Downtown Atlanta to the Capitol Gateway, Summerhill, Peoplestown, and the Atlanta Beltline. Connections to the MARTA rail system will be available at Five Points, Georgia State, and Garnett stations.
