“I don’t want people to get to midlife and just exist,” said Lewis. “I want people to live with intention.”
ATLANTA — At an age when many people feel pressure to slow down, settle, or ride things out, Charlie Lewis Jr. is doing the opposite.
The real estate leader and author has entered what he calls his “double nickel” years, also known as midlife, with clarity and confidence. At the heart of his new book “No Apologies: Love the Way You Live at Any Age” is a message: you don’t age out of purpose. In an interview with 11Alive, the Statesboro native explained that the book is a guide to living intentionally and without comparison.
“After 50 should be your best years ever,” Lewis says. “You have the wisdom. You should know better, and live better.”
Lewis says the idea for the book came from a realization many people quietly face in midlife. Too many adults discover they have no one to talk to when life throws a curveball of uncertainty.
“As you get older, you don’t have mentors anymore,” he explains. “If you haven’t built a community along the way and something goes wrong, you’re isolated.”
After decades of working across industries from marketing to sports, entertainment, and eventually real estate, Lewis found himself in constant conversation with people at life’s crossroads.
“I don’t want people to get to midlife and just exist,” he says. “I want people to live with intention.”
Lewis says that despite professional achievements and recognition, many people still reach their 50s and ask themselves, “Why am I not where I thought I’d be?”
Lewis challenges the idea that there’s an expiration date on growth or reinvention. In the book, he explores what he calls the “eight dimensions of wellness”, including occupational, emotional, and social well-being. He emphasizes that fulfillment requires balance.
“There’s never ‘not enough time’ to pivot,” he says. “What happens is people decide they’re done trying… and that’s when they start drifting.”
Lewis urges readers to stop comparing themselves to neighbors, coworkers, or curated lives online, and instead design a life that aligns with who they truly are.
“Love the way you live,” he says. “Not the way someone else does.”
