WASHINGTON — Quinton Aaron’s family have provided an update on “The Blind Side” actor, who is currently hospitalized and on life support.
Aaron, the actor known for bringing gentle giant Michael Oher to life in the Oscar-winning film, has been hospitalized in Atlanta since Thursday after he collapsed while walking up the stairs in his apartment, TMZ reported. Aaron is battling a severe blood infection.
On Monday, Aaron’s wife, Margarita, told TMZ that the actor “opened his eyes today and gave a thumbs up.” An update on the online fundraiser for the actor also gave an update on Monday, saying that he is still on life support and “going through tests.”
“Quinton has opened his eyes and has some feeling in his foot! He is still on life support and going through tests,” the Veteran Aid Network, which is organizing the fundraiser, said in an update. “We are looking at quite a recovery time and will need a wheelchair when he is released while he goes through therapy to walk again. Thank you to all of you for your support and prayers.”
TMZ also reported on Tuesday that the family said doctors discovered a rare cyst on his spine and doctors may be considering back surgery.
Aaron, described by those close to him as generous and community-focused off-screen, is facing a sudden and critical medical emergency that has left loved ones reeling emotionally and financially.
“Quinton is one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet. He shows up for others. He encourages, uplifts, and gives freely of himself, often without asking for anything in return. Today, he needs us to show up for him,” the online fundraiser said.

Loved ones added that the illness has created mounting medical expenses and ongoing living costs as his family focuses on his care and recovery.
“When someone is this critically ill, life doesn’t pause,” the message said, noting that bills and other obligations continue while families navigate uncertainty.
The online fundraiser has been organized to help cover Aaron’s medical needs and provide financial stability for his family during what supporters called an “incredibly difficult time.” Organizers said donations of any size are welcome and encouraged those unable to give financially to share the effort with others.
Aaron has long been known by fans for his role opposite Sandra Bullock in the 2009 sports drama, but supporters said his impact extends beyond film through personal encouragement and outreach to others.
Those organizing the effort are also asking the public to keep Aaron in their thoughts and prayers as he undergoes treatment.
