The USPS will release 10 stamps featuring Barbie in career attire at a collectors convention this summer.
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service announced Friday that it will release a commemorative stamp set celebrating Barbie this summer, featuring the iconic doll dressed for 10 careers across six decades of history.
The stamps will debut July 11 at the 2026 National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, Texas. As Forever stamps, they will always be valid for First-Class Mail postage regardless of future rate changes.
Barbie, created by Mattel Inc. and first introduced in 1959 as “The Original Teenage Fashion Model,” has represented more than 250 careers during her more than 65 years as a cultural touchstone. The new stamps draw from that legacy, depicting the doll in roles ranging from surgeon and astronaut to paleontologist, soccer player, sign language teacher and music star.
To accommodate the full detail of each doll’s career attire, the USPS opted for an unusually elongated format — a stamp one-third taller than a standard vertical commemorative. The dimensions allow the designs to showcase the dolls more fully than a conventional stamp would permit.
Ethel Kessler, a USPS art director, collaborated with Mattel on the stamp and pane designs. She said the team approached the project “with a spirit of fun,” leaning into bright, energetic colors anchored by the brand’s signature shade.
“Barbie Pink” dominates the palette, chosen to evoke a sense of joy consistent with the doll’s long-standing association with imaginative play.
The USPS noted that the designs are preliminary and subject to change before the official July launch.
The convention in Austin, where the stamps will make their public debut, draws collectors from across the country and serves as one of the premier annual gatherings for Barbie enthusiasts.
