Four Americans qualified for the men’s moguls final. Here’s how they did Thursday and what happened after the top two competitors tied in their final run.
WASHINGTON — Men’s freestyle skiing crowned its 2026 Olympic moguls champion Thursday in a dramatic podium effort after the top two competitors tied in their final run.
Ultimately, the gold and silver medal winners were separated only by their turns scores after both finished their final run with a matching mark of 83.71.
During the freestyle finals event, skiers competed in two runs. Only the top eight scorers from the first run advanced to the second and final run to compete for a spot on the podium.
Four Americans qualified for the first round, but only one advanced to the second run.
Team USA’s Charlie Mickel, Dylan Walczyk and Landon Wendler did not manage to advance to the podium round. Mickel and Walczyk ranked 12th and 13th, respectively, and Wendler came in 17th in a pool of 20 men’s moguls competitors.
Nick Page, who ranked third overall this season, finished fifth in the first run, but the competitors turned up the dial for a chance at gold.
The 23-year-old who calls Florida home finished seventh. It’s his second time competing in men’s moguls at the Winter Games. He finished fifth at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Canada’s three-time Olympic medalist Mikaël Kingsbury was looking to add medals to his collection, and he did. Kingsbury went into the event, his fourth Winter Games, as the most decorated mogul skier in history. He was seeking his second Olympic gold after his 2018 PyeongChang win.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the top two scores tied in the final run.
Australian Cooper Woods and Kingsbury tied in the second run with a matching score of 83.71. The gold and silver medals could only be split by Woods’ turn score of 48.4 to Kingbury’s turn score of 47.7, lifting Woods to a dramatic gold medal win.
Japanese skier Ikuma Horishima, who topped the men’s mogul qualification run Tuesday, earned his second Olympic bronze medal Thursday. He won bronze for the same event in the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Moguls runs are scored based on a skier’s turns through the back-pounding, knee-crunching mounds of packed snow, their execution of two jumps off ramps and their time spent finishing the course.
