New features include travel planning tools, AI-powered voice bookings and expanded shopping options as the company broadens its platform.
WASHINGTON — Uber is expanding beyond rides and food delivery with an all new slate of new travel features, including hotel bookings, as part of its push to become a broader all-in-one platform.
The company announced the updates at its annual GO-GET product event, introducing tools designed to help users plan and manage trips directly within the Uber app.
“Uber is becoming an app for everything—helping people go, get, and now travel all in one place,” Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber said. “We’re all living through a moment of real cognitive overload: too many apps, too many decisions, too much noise. At the end of the day, our job is to help people reclaim their time, spending less of it managing the logistics of life and more of it actually living.”
Among the biggest additions is a partnership with Expedia Group that will allow U.S. users to book hotels through Uber.
The new offering is expected to expand to include over 700,000 properties worldwide. Uber said its subscription members will still be able to earn rewards on bookings and access discounted hotel rates through the partnership.
The companies also plan to integrate Uber rides into Expedia’s app, allowing travelers to book transportation alongside lodging.
Uber also introduced “Travel Mode,” a new feature that offers recommendations for restaurants, activities and reservations, along with delivery options for hotel stays. The company said the tool is designed to act as a “personal travel concierge.”
Additional features include “Shop for Me,” which allows users to request items from stores not listed on the app, and “Voice Bookings,” an artificial intelligence-powered tool that lets users request rides using conversational prompts. A redesigned search function will also allow users to look up rides, food and retail items in one place.
The new features are rolling out in phases, with some, including hotel bookings, launching first in the United States before expanding internationally.
