ATLANTA — 11Aliive is stepping up to pitch in for the community in ahead of MLK Day, joining Hands On Atlanta on Wednesday for a volunteer effort aimed at providing essentials for unhoused communities.
In the spirit of making MLK Day a “day on, not a day off” and helping build and realize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the Beloved Community, Hands On Atlanta is holding MLK Days of Service volunteer events from January 12-19.
On Wednesday, 11Alive joined Hands On Atlanta as well as other organizations including the Atlanta Dream, The Home Depot, Delta Dental and OneDigital to pack hygiene kits for the nonprofit Restoring One’s Hope of Atlanta.
Hands On Atlanta CEO Naomi Green told 11Alive on Wednesday the goal is to pack at least 2,000 kits for the Atlanta unhoused community. Green also pointed to the more than 50 on MLK Day itself where you can “really change the life of a neighbor or neighborhood in your community.”
Those events can be found here.
“I believe in the philosophy that many hands make light work — you can see how may hands it’s taking to get the work done today,” Green said. “We’re just so thankful to the community for showing up.”
