The students all participated in the Grayson Technical Education Program’s music industry program at Grayson High School.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Three former students of a Gwinnett County music program have been nominated for a Grammy Award.

The students–John Kadudu, Luc Bernadel and Andrew Hitt–all participated in the Grayson Technical Education Program’s music industry program at Grayson High School.

Bernadel, a 2019 graduate of Duluth High School, is nominated as a producer for “Best Progressive R&B Album” for the group FLO. Kadudu, a 2014 graduate of Duluth High School, is nominated as an engineer for “Best Rap Album” for the Atlanta-based artist JID. Hitt, a 2020 graduate of Lanier High School, is nominated as a producer for “Best Progressive R&B Album” for the artist FLO.

According to the school district, the program aims to set students up for success by giving them access to high-quality, professional equipment and real-world experiences. The school district said the students can explore their creativity by creating original songs and collaborating on original musical compositions using the latest software.

Their former instructor for the program, two-time Grammy nominee Andre DeRamus, said the students were always striving for excellence and he noticed their ambition.

“Something I can say these students had in common was the hunger for more,” said DeRamus in a release.”Though they graduated in different years, these students were on time, very punctual with their assignments, took things seriously, and asked questions when they wanted to know something and further their knowledge.”

Bernadel said he got involved with producing for the group FLO through a music engineering internship at Raydar Studios in Atlanta. However, he gives credit to the Grayson program for giving him the confidence to follow his dream.

“Grayson Tech essentially showed me how anything is possible with enough time and hard work. I graduated in 2019, and truthfully, aIways knew I could go far,” said Bernadel in a release. “But hands down, the most special thing about this nomination is that Andrew [Grammy Nominee listed above] and I did it together,” Bernadel continues. “We sat right next to one another in Music Tech class, and now we’re nominated together. Pretty surreal.”

He has also released his own music and plans to continue working on becoming a recording artist.

The Grammys are scheduled to air on February 1, 2026.
