ATLANTA — Warming centers across metro Atlanta are opening as temperatures drop to freezing.

Temperatures started dropping on Monday night, falling into the mid and upper 20s, and are expected to remain low through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Below is a list of warming centers open to residents in the city of Atlanta, DeKalb, and Clayton counties:

City of Atlanta

The City of Atlanta will open warming centers on Dec. 30 at 8:00 p.m. and keep them open through Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Central Park Recreation Center at 400 Merritts Ave. NE, Atlanta
  • Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3404 Delmar Ln NW, Atlanta
  • Selena S. Butler Park and Recreation Center at 98 William Holmes Borders Drive NE, Atlanta, for Women and Children only

Transportation will be provided nightly at 8:00 p.m. from the Gateway Center, with return transportation provided by Fulton County from the Gateway Center upon deactivation.

DeKalb County

DeKalb County will activate warming centers beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 29, 30 and 31.

  • Exchange Park Intergenerational Center, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur,  open 24 hours
  • Frontline Response International, 2585 Gresham Road SE, Atlanta, open 24 hours
  • St. Vincent de Paul, 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Road, Chamblee
  • Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur

All transportation routes originate from Frontline Response Headquarters located at 2585 Gresham Road SE, and are scheduled to have initial pickups completed by 7:30 p.m. Following the initial routes, final sweeps will continue from 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., ending promptly at 10 p.m.

Clayton County 

Clayton County Parks & Recreation Centers are open Dec. 30 and Dec. 31 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the following locations: 

  • Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, 2499 Rex Road, Rex
  • Jim Huie Recreation Center, 9045 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro
  • Virginia Gray Recreation Center. 1475 East Fayetteville Road, Riverdale
  • South Clayton Recreation Center, 1837 McDonough Road, Hampton

Overnight stations are open from Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day. Clayton County residents must arrive before 10:00 p.m. for entry at the following locations:

  • Anointed Vision of Hope, 8049 Webb Road 7911, Riverdale
  • Now Faith Apostolic Ministries, 3406 Rex Road, Rex

Ujimay Way at 404-267-1853, and Hearts to Nourish Hope at 404-375-5341 will canvass the county for individuals who may need transportation.
