Amazon unveils first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot

WASHINGTON — Amazon MGM Studios revealed a first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the new “Tomb Raider” reboot. 

Prime Video announced Thursday that production is officially underway in Los Angeles. The studio also gave fans a first glimpse of the “Game of Thrones” star in full Lara Croft gear. In the photo, Turner is sporting the video game character’s iconic green tank, black shorts and red sunglasses. 

Turner will lead Prime Video’s new TV adaptation of the popular video game franchise. The show, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will also feature Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.

The TV series will follow the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.

Turner is the newest star to take hold of the “Tomb Raider” mantle, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Jolie starred in the first movie adaptation, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,”  and its sequel, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life.”

“I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got,” Turner said in a previous statement. “They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
