The three-time Olympic gold medalist enters the Games as the favorite in women’s halfpipe after another dominant season and recovery from a shoulder injury.

WASHINGTON — Chloe Kim is one of the biggest stars competing at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. This year, the snowboarder become the first action-sports athlete to win three straight gold medals.

Kim qualified for the Winter Games early after winning the 2025 World Championship for the third year, matching the all-time record for most world titles in women’s halfpipe snowboarding.

During the 2025 season, Kim also continued stacking accolades, winning her eighth superpipe gold medal at the X Games. That gave her the most wins ever by a woman in the event and tied her with Shaun White for the most superpipe wins overall.

But her road to Milan Cortina wasn’t totally smooth. Kim posted an update to Instagram Jan. 13 to say she had torn her labrum — the lining of the socket that holds the shoulder together — but wasn’t surprised by the news. She did not say which shoulder she injured when she fell.

“I took the silliest fall and that ultimately resulted in me dislocating my shoulder,” the 25-year-old said in a Jan. 8 Instagram post.

In an update posted Jan. 27, Kim said she is rehabbing her shoulder “to get it as strong as possible.” She shared a vlog-like video showing herself exercising and getting a facial at home in Los Angeles, California.

Kim said the tear was not too severe and she expects to be ready in time for the Olympics.

In Milan Cortina, she will compete in the women’s snowboard halfpipe, where she’ll be the favorite to defend her title once again.
