Galoppo Gets First Goal
Atlanta Latinos – In what was an uneven performance for both teams, it was probably justified that Atlanta United and New York FC tied 2-2 Saturday night at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
New York struck first in the 5’. A ball in the box bounced off Atlanta’s Matthew Edwards, giving New York a 1-0 lead on the own goal.
It didn’t Atlanta long to respond though. In the 10’, midfielder Giuliano Galoppo punched home his first goal. It was only Galoppo’s second game with the team and his first in front of the home crowd. Both Tomas Jacob and Enea Mihaj earned assists on the play.
The score remained tied 1-1 into halftime. New York re-took the lead 2-1 in the 57’. Andres Perea scored his second goal of the season.
Atlanta continued to fight back, tying the match 2-2 in the 74’ on Jay Fortune’s powerful shot. The New York goalkeeper appeared to stop the shot, but the ball trickled past him and across the line for Fortune’s third goal of the season. Assists were credited to Tristan Muyumba and Tristan Muyumba.
And that’s how the game ended. Atlanta showed a lot of grit and resilience in coming back from one-goal deficits twice. Both teams were impacted greatly by having multiple players miss the match due to international duties.
Atlanta next plays at home against Cincinnati on Saturday, October 10th.
