WASHINGTON — Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 24,000 vehicles because the drive shaft universal joint may break unexpectedly.
Recall documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that if the joint breaks, the car would have a sudden loss of drive power, which increases the risk of a crash.
The Mercedes-Benz vehicles covered in the recall include:
- 2018 E 400 4MATIC
- 2018 E 400 4MATIC CABRIOLET
- 2018 E 400 4MATIC COUPE
- 2018 E 400 4MATIC WAGON
- 2019-2020 E 450 4MATIC
- 2019-2020 E 450 4MATIC CABRIOLET
- 2019-2020 E 450 4MATIC COUPE
- 2019-2020 E 450 4MATIC WAGON
- 2018-2020 S 450 4MATIC
- 2018-2020 S 560 4MATIC
- 2018-2020 S 560 4MATIC COUPE
- 2018-2020 Maybach S560 4MATIC
According to the recall, Mercedes dealers will inspect the drive shaft universal joint and replace it, if necessary.
Mercedes says they will send notification letters of the recall to owners by June 2, 2026.
Owners can call Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or see if their VIN is involved in the recall by searching their number on NHTSA.gov.
