Media executive Angel Livas is helping reshape the creator economy by putting ownership and monetization back in the hands of storytellers.
As the creator economy continues to evolve, more people are looking for ways to take control of their content and their careers. Angel Livas tells 11Alive she launched the ALIVE Podcast Network to amplify underrepresented voices while prioritizing ownership and sustainable income.
“The ALIVE Podcast network was created to help amplify black voices, to help them with their monetization, and to make sure that they maintain ownership of their content,” said Livas.
She saw a stark contrast in how content creators were treated depending on who they were working for.
“When I started creating content for black celebrities and black individuals… they didn’t always own their content. They didn’t always have the monetization structures in place for them to really leverage that dollar,”said Livas.
That gap led her to build a new kind of ecosystem that allows creators to benefit directly from their work. Through a proprietary app, subscribers can support specific hosts, with creators receiving a significant share of subscription revenue.
“That host then gets 50% of your monthly subscription fee. So it’s not making them rely completely on the advertisers to generate the dollar,” said Livas.
The model reflects a broader industry shift, as more creators seek ownership of their intellectual property and deeper connections with their audiences.
“People are very much wanting ownership of their IP… they no longer want to just create content and have the businesses own their IP.”
For aspiring creators especially in a city like Atlanta, where the content space is rapidly growing, Livas says the key is to start now and stay consistent.
“Start with where you are… it’s consistency. It’s taking a step every single day and keep showing up.”
