WASHINGTON — Grocery chain ALDI announced plans to eliminate 44 more ingredients from its private-label food and vitamin and supplement products by 2028.
The new plan, announced April 22, will grow ALDI’s restricted ingredient list from 13 to 57. The last time the company added to the list was in 2015.
The move targets artificial preservatives, colors, flavors and sweeteners.
The company said it would try to keep the “lowest possible prices” for customers, but it’s unclear if the new formulations will cost more.
New formulations will hit shelves now until the December 2027 deadline.
How will you know if the formula is new? ALDI said the updated ingredient information will be “directly on packaging” for transparency.
As for if changed to formulas will change taste, ALDI said they’re working to try and keep their “quality benchmarks.” They also taste test their products up to five times a year “to ensure our products meet or beat the quality of pricier national brands.”
