Amazon first introduced ads on the streaming platform in 2024.
WASHINGTON — Amazon announced it is raising the price of its ad-free Prime Video subscription.
The change, which will raise the monthly price from $2.99 to $4.99, comes as Amazon revamped their ad-free tier. Prime Video Ultra, as the tier is now called, will allow users to have up to five concurrent streams, 100 downloads and exclusive access to 4K and UHD streaming, Amazon said in a news release.
The price change will be effective April 10. Prime members can also opt to switch to the annual plan for the ad-free tier for $45.99, offering a 23% discount from the monthly rate.
Prime Video Ultra is only available in the United States.
“Delivering ad-free streaming with premium features requires significant investment, and this structure aligns with other major streaming services while ensuring customers have the flexibility to choose how they want to watch,” the streaming giant said in a statement.
According to Amazon, Prime members will continue to have Prime Video along with their subscription at no additional cost. Amazon’s Prime membership costs $14.99 a month or $139 annually.
The regular tier with ads has only 50 downloads available and has the ability to have up to four concurrent streams. It does not have access to UHD or 4K streaming, or Dolby Atmos.

According to CNBC, Amazon’s latest earnings report showed the company had maintained an average ad-supported audience of more than 315 million viewers globally, up from 200 million in April 2024.
