New York did not stop there. A few minutes later, in the 15 th minute, the Red Bulls added a second goal. John Tolkin scored his first goal of the season and only the second of his career. Cristian Casseres Jr. was credited with his second assist on the night.


From there it was a defensive battle. Atlanta did manage to prevent the shutout in the waning moments. Josef Martinez scored the goal, his sixth of the season. Both Luiz Araujo and Thiago Almada were credited with assists on the play.


Amazingly, Atlanta United dominated time of possession 73% to 27%. Atlanta had 20 crosses to only 5 for the Red Bulls. But total shots slightly favored New York 13-12. And New York won the total goals stat, which is the only one that matters in the end.
