ATLANTA — Atlantic Station management said it’s actively looking to find a new grocer now that Publix has shared its decision to close its store that’s located there. In the interim, Atlantic Station is working on solutions for residents nearby.
In a statement Tuesday, the management for the mixed-use development said the store’s decision to close was unexpected. They said they received notice about two weeks ago that Publix was planning to close.
Many were not happy to learn that Publix was planning to close the location. A group gathered outside the location for about an hour Tuesday to protest the upcoming closure. They’d like to see a solution so that there is a grocery store there.
They left the store and migrated to the 17th Street Bridge. Neighbors said they would like to see a solution, particularly for those who don’t have cars and walk to get groceries.
Atlantic Station said it’s working on a remedy.
“We recognize the importance of convenient access to everyday needs, including groceries, and are working on near-term solutions while longer-term leasing efforts continue,” Atlantic Station’s statement said in part. “As part of this effort, Atlantic Station is coordinating on the addition of a shuttle stop to improve access to nearby grocery options, and we continue to explore other ways to support residents during this transition.”
The store is set to close on Dec. 27. Publix is also planning to close the Publix Shallowford Exchange location at 2562 Shallowford Road near Chamblee.
