The legendary singer revealed he’ll be having surgery to remove a ‘cancerous spot’ on his left lung.
WASHINGTON — Singer Barry Manilow revealed on Monday that he will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his lung.
The legendary musician said that after recovering from several weeks of bronchitis, his doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure everything was OK. During that scan, the doctor discovered a cancerous spot on his left lung that needs to be removed.
“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news,” Manilow shared.
The singer plans to have surgery to have the spot removed and said doctors don’t believe it’s spread, so he’ll be able to avoid chemotherapy.
However, because Manilow will need a month to recover post-surgery, he has to reschedule the January dates of his farewell tour.
The tour includes stops in Tampa, Columbus, Charleston, Orlando, Sunrise, Estero, Greensboro, Jacksonville and Duluth, Georgia. The tour dates have been rescheduled for late February through April.
“I’m very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around,” Manilow explained.
Manilow told fans he’ll be counting down the days until he returns to performing at his long-running Las Vegas residency for Valentine’s weekend in February.
