NEW YORK — Burger King announced on Thursday they will give the “Whopper” its first makeover in nearly a decade.
According to the company, the new version will feature a premium bun, creamier mayonnaise and will be served in a clamshell box rather than paper wrapping.
The company said the changes come after customer complaints of smashed burgers that were falling apart. Earlier this month, Burger King invited consumers to share their feedback and improvement ideas with the company’s president via call or text.
“Over the past several years, we’ve focused on strengthening our operations and modernizing our restaurants to build a more consistent foundation across the system,” said Tom Curtis, president of Burger King U.S. & Canada, in a news release on Thursday. “With that work well underway, we’re now in a position to thoughtfully elevate our core menu. The Whopper is an icon, so we didn’t set out to reinvent it. Instead, we elevated it based on direct guest feedback.”
The new version of the iconic burger is set to roll out this week to more than 7,000 Burger King locations nationwide.
The company was sure to note that the beef patty would remain the same.
According to the company, the new burger will cost franchisees more, but Burger King is urging them not to raise prices.
