A car illegally drove on the Beltline near Krog Street, sparking safety concerns.
ATLANTA — A car was spotted driving on the Beltline in the heavily populated Krog Street section on Tuesday evening, raising safety concerns about drivers’ ability to access the trail.
Motor vehicles are prohibited along that path, and bollards are in place to prevent them. However, witnesses saw the car leave the Beltline by driving over a curb near Krog Street and DeKalb around 6 p.m. It is not known whether the vehicle entered at that location.
Video obtained by 11Alive shows the car driving north toward Irwin Street NE, near several restaurants and retail shops. A witness said the car turned around and went back to DeKalb Street. There were fewer people than usual in the area, likely because of the chilly temperatures.
The corner of Krog and DeKalb has bollards in place, but there are no barriers just a few feet to the west, which would allow a vehicle to hop the curb and access the trail.

“All City of Atlanta and Atlanta Beltline access points are secured,” a spokesperson for the Beltline said. “The location … is not Beltline property. We are coordinating with Public Safety and the adjacent property owners of the area to secure all spots.
“We are aware of reports of a motor vehicle on the Atlanta Beltline. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trail, except for authorized uses.
“Safety on the trail is a top priority, and we appreciate the community’s help in looking out for one another.”
