Copperfield has performed at the MGM Grand for a quarter-century. On Thursday, he announced when his last show will be.

WASHINGTON — Stage magician and illusionist David Copperfield has announced the end of his 25-year residency at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

His last performance will be on April 30, he said in a social media post.

“My journey began as a kid in New Jersey with a dream of one day making magic my life,” he said in his post. “I saw magic then – and I see magic now – as more than just my work. Magic teaches us that often the things that others dismiss as impossible are not only possible – but within our grasp.”

Forbes has listed Copperfield as the most commercially successful stage magician ever. His illusions have included the vanishing and reappearance of the Statue of Liberty, levitating over the Grand Canyon and walking through the Great Wall of China.

“I’m excited to announce what’s next soon thereafter,” he said on Thursday. “It’s the largest project I’ve ever tackled, and the most challenging, too.”

In 2023, Copperfield announced he would “make the moon disappear,” a project he said he had been working on for 30 years. The illusion was originally scheduled for 2024 and hasn’t happened yet.

“Some cool new developments are taking extra time, but I’ll have more updates soon,” he posted to social media in February 2024.

Copperfield, whose career has spanned decades, hasn’t been without controversy. He was named in releases of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. In 2018, he was accused of assaulting a model when she was 17 years old. At that time, he released a statement cautioning against rushing to judgment.
