A man driving a Ford Fushion crashed early Monday morning into the back of a semi in south Fulton County, Georgia State Patrol said.
FAIRBURN, Ga. — A man crashed into the back of a truck on I-85 in south Fulton County early Monday morning, with EMS reportedly finding a cell phone in his lap when they got on scene and the appearances that he “was actively watching a podcast” when the crash occurred.
Georgia State Patrol said in a statement the incident happened just after 1 a.m. near Fairburn as a semi-truck came to a stop “due to an active construction pacing detail.”
The driver of a Ford Fushion “was distracted driving and following too closely” and struck the rear of the semi, coming to an “uncontrolled rest lodged under the trailer” of the truck.
The GSP statement did not indicate whether the driver of the Ford survived, and 11Alive reached out for clarification.
According to GSP, the driver of the semi-truck said he had stopped due to the traffic congestion in front of him when he was hit.
“EMS staff stated when they arrived the driver of the ford’s cellphone was in his lap, and it appeared he was actively watching a podcast,” the GSP statement said.
