‘Euphoria’ Season 3 trailer gives first look at Eric Dane’s final performance

WASHINGTON — HBO officially released the trailer for “Euphoria” Season 3 on Monday, offering a glimpse of what the troubled young adults from East Highland, California, are up to after high school. 

The nearly three-minute-long trailer showed Zendaya’s character, Rue, being questioned in Mexico after working as a drug mule for drug dealers. Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer, Martha Kelly and Coleman Domingo also appeared in the trailer. 

Among the main cast shown in the trailer was the late Eric Dane. Season 3 of the Emmy-winning HBO MAX drama is likely Dane’s final performance. 

In the trailer, Cal, played by Dane, reunites with Schafer’s Jules years after the two had a one-night stand in Season 1. 

“Remember me?” Jules asks in the trailer. 

“How could I forget?” he replies. 

According to IMDb, Dane will appear in all eight episodes of Season 3. 

Dane, who played Elordi’s dad on the show, died Feb. 19 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 53. 

Dane was also known for his roles on “Grey’s Anatomy” as Mark “McSteamy” Sloan and as the lead in Max’s “The Last Ship.” He was diagnosed in April 2025. 

ALS is a disease with no cure that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic. ALS causes loss of muscle control that worsens over time. When voluntary muscle action is impacted, “people may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe,” according to the ALS Association. 

Its exact cause is still not known, and anyone at any age can be diagnosed with ALS.

Other notable people who have been diagnosed with ALS include Stephen Hawking, American professional baseball player Lou Gehrig, American football player Eric Stevens, musician Roberta Cleopatra Flack and more.
