A friend of Nwangene’s said two snakes were later found inside her home.
ABUJA, Nigeria — Former “The Voice: Nigeria” contestant and singer Ifunanya Nwangene died after being bitten by a snake in her sleep.
The 26-year-old died Saturday at the Federal Medical center, her opera group Amemuso Choir announced Sunday.
“Amemuso Choir regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved soprano,” the announced on their Facebook page. “A rising star, Ifunanya was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world. Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed.”
Hillary Obinna, a friend of Nwangene’s and a fellow singer, told the BBC Nwangene was at home in Abuja, Nigeria when “snake bite woke her up.”
He said two snakes were later found inside her home. It’s unclear what snakes were reportedly found.
The BBC reported Nwangene was planning to stage her first solo concert later this year.
She was on “The Voice: Nigeria” season three where she turned the chairs of two hosts when she sang Rihanna’s “Take a Bow.”
She went as “NANYAH” on YouTube and her “The Voice” audition has more than 81,000 views on the platform.
