Days before Christmas, an Atlanta nonprofit transformed a school gym into a space of joy, dignity, and hope for 2,000 children across the city.

ATLANTA — Laughter echoed through the gym at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School as children raced between bounce houses and clutched brand-new gifts, many for the first time this holiday season.

Just days before Christmas, the Nehemiah Davis Foundation hosted its 17th annual “Gifts From Heaven” Christmas Extravaganza, welcoming families from across Atlanta for an afternoon built on joy, dignity, and community care.

For founder Nehemiah “Neo” Davis, the event is more than a giveaway, it’s a tradition rooted in purpose.

“I’ve been giving back during the Christmas holidays with ‘17 Days of Heaven’ for 17 years now, and it’s one of my absolute favorite moments of the year,” Davis said.

This year’s extravaganza came at a time when many families are still feeling the weight of rising costs and financial strain. Volunteers and sponsors came together to serve about 2,000 children and families, offering bicycles, toys, clothing, televisions, and everyday essentials, along with hot meals, snacks, and desserts.

Beyond the gifts, the space was designed to feel celebratory and affirming. Families enjoyed a petting zoo, face painting, a hair-braiding station, a 360-degree photo booth, and inflatable games,  small moments meant to remind families they are seen and valued.

“Our goal was to make it even bigger this year,” Davis said. “I am grateful for our sponsors, my team, and the community who participated to make this year’s Christmas Extravaganza one of our biggest yet. Our goal was to reach as many households as possible, and I’m glad that we were able to do just that.”

The event was made possible through support from The Nehemiah Foundation, REVOLT CEO Detavio Samuels, 411 Brand Foundation founder John Thomas  and financial strategist Jekwenta Primm.

The Nehemiah Davis Foundation focuses its work on serving children, seniors, and individuals experiencing homelessness, with a mission centered on restoring dignity, instilling hope, and creating pathways to opportunity. Its vision: a community where no one is left without support and every person has the chance to thrive.
