Kyle Pease Foundation celebrates 15 years of helping racers with disabilities push beyond boundaries

CHAMBLEE, Ga. — Kyle Pease’s latest race certainly won’t be his last. Fresh off wheeling his way to a half marathon finish, Kyle and his brother Brent are ready to conquer another.

“It’s giving them hope and an opportunity to see way beyond their own limits,” Kyle said. “I hope that people see that anything they do is possible.”

Pushing beyond limits underscores the message of the Kyle Pease Foundation, which for 15 years has sent more than 150 people with disabilities to the starting line and gotten them to the finish line. During the Publix Marathon earlier this month, 67 in-chair athletes participated in the competition. 

“It wasn’t how many finish lines we could reach,” Brent said. “It was collectively what we were chasing together. We’ve always been fueled by each other. It’s such an amazing experience to share together that it really keeps us in it.”

Brent, an endurance sport athlete, typically runs side-by-side with Kyle, with the two inseparable in their quest for inclusion. The foundation has raised money for adaptive sports equipment, mobility devices, scholarships and medical support for families. Foundation athletes have competed in IRONMAN World Championships and major races nationwide.

“It’s more than racing. It’s family,” Kyle said. “Take the first step. You never know how you’re going to impact somebody and make difference in their day or their life.”

Kyle calls it a labor of love to prove to himself and others that anything’s possible. 

“I think the true measure of any legacy of what we’ve done is not going to be because somebody in ten years says look at what I’m doing because of Brent and Kyle,” Brent said. “It’s that the thing that’s been created, which for us is a movement of inclusion, is something people continue to do for many more miles long after we’re gone.”
