The nail polish remover contains substances that are strictly prohibited in cosmetic formulations, the Food and Drug Administration warned.
WASHINGTON — A gel nail polish remover sold on Amazon is under recall after it was found to contain two hazardous substances prohibited in cosmetics.
The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers about the Morovan brand gel nail polish remover sold online in a recall alert on Monday. About 4,000 units are impacted by the recall.
The nail polish remover was found to contain methylene chloride and chloroform. Methylene chloride, which is not allowed in cosmetics at any level under federal regulations, has been shown to cause cancer in animals and is likely harmful to humans, the FDA said in the notice.
No injuries or incidents have been reported in relation to the recall.
The recalled Morovan nail polish remover comes in a 15 ml square turquoise bottle with a white cap and matching green packaging box. It is manufactured in China and has an expiration date of Feb. 7, 2027.
Recalled products can also be identified by the production date of Feb. 2, 2024. The bottles were sol on Amazon from August 2025 until January 2026.
Consumers are urged to cease use immediately and mark the bottle’s outer packaging with the word “recalled.” Additionally, the FDA warned consumers to dispose of the product in a safe manner, including the bottle and remaining contents, in accordance to local waste regulations. After proper disposal, consumers can take a photo of the discarded product with the “recalled” marker and submit it to the Morovan customer service team at customer-service@morovan.com for verification.
Customers can receive a refund, the FDA added.
