
Some districts announced closures while others are moving to remote learning or starting late on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.
ATLANTA — Some Georgia communities are dealing with the aftermath of the winter storm that moved though the state over the weekend.
And with temperatures expected to drop again overnight, some school district in north Georgia have announced closures or are making adjustments for Tuesday, Jan. 27.

— Closings —
Banks County Schools
Banks County Schools will be closed for staff and students on Tuesday, January 27.
Clarke County School District
All Clarke county School District schools and offices will again be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27. All after-school and extracurricular activities are also canceled.
Habersham County Schools
Habersham County Schools are closed for students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Jackson County School District
The Jackson County School System will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27. All extracurricular activities scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled.
Oglethorpe County Schools
Oglethorpe County Schools will be closed for students Tuesday, Jan. 27. Teachers and paraprofessionals will observe a workday from home. Staff have received an email regarding reporting.
Rabun County Schools
Rabun County Schools will remain closed Tuesday, Jan. 27 due to hazardous road conditions and power outages from the storm. 12-month employees should report at 10 a.m. if it is safe to do so. A decision on afternoon activities will be made after further assessments.
White County School System
White County Schools will be closed to students and staff Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Buford City Schools
Buford City Schools will observe a learn-from-home day on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Students should follow their teachers’ instructions for daily assignments and activities.
Fannin County School System
Fannin County Schools will be on a virtual learning day on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Gainesville City School System
Gainesville City Schools and District Offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Students should continue completing assignments and communicating with their teachers as expected.
Hall County Schools
The Hall County School District will conduct a school from home day Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Lumpkin County Schools
Lumpkin County Schools will lave a virtual learning day on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Madison County Schools
Madison County School System will be closed on Tuesday, January 27. The system will implement a digital/independent learning day instead.
Pickens County School District
Pickens County Schools will be having a digital learning day on Jan. 27. District offices will be open and 12-month employees should report.
— Delayed start —
Forsyth County Schools
All Forsyth County Schools will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 27. and will operate on a two-hour delay. All school start times will begin two hours later than normal. Dismissal times will remain the same as a regular school day.
Gilmer County Schools
The Gilmer County School System will operate on a two hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Polk School District
Polk School District will open with a two-hour delayed start on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The additional time will ensure our buses and facilities are fully operational and warm. This means all bus routes, school openings, and start times will be shifted forward by two hours from their regular times. For example, a 7 a.m. bus pickup will now be a 9 a.m. pickup, etc. There will be no change in dismissal procedures.
