Atlanta-based Jamestown has entered an agreement with New York Life, the owner of North Point Mall, to take the lead on preparing the massive site for redevelopment.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The real estate company known for Ponce City Market is joining the yearslong effort to lure an NHL team to the Atlanta area by turning an Alpharetta mall into a sports-centric district.

Atlanta-based Jamestown has entered an agreement with New York Life, the owner of North Point Mall, to take the lead on preparing the massive site for redevelopment, according to a Feb. 26 announcement. The company will also oversee the site’s property management beginning in March.

Jamestown will work with Machete Group, a real estate firm specialized in developing sports and entertainment venues, to guide the project. The Houston-based company has overseen the development of a wide range of venues used by the NHL, NFL, NBA and MLS, among other professional sports leagues.

“We think this is a great location for an NHL team and, hopefully, our efforts will attract an owner who wants to acquire an expansion team and bring hockey back to Atlanta,” said Tim Perry, chief investment officer at Jamestown, in a statement.
