Rotten meat, water damage: Atlanta woman on day 9 with no power

ATLANTA — A Midtown condo owner says a nearly two-week-long power outage has left her dealing with thousands of dollars in losses, property damage, and growing frustration.

Hundreds of dollars worth of food has spoiled. More than $1,000 has gone toward hotel stays paid out of pocket. And she estimates roughly $30,000 in damage to her condo after her refrigerator and deep freezer thawed, damaging floors and lower cabinets.

As she enters day 10 without electricity, the woman — who asked not to be identified — says she worries the financial toll will only increase.

“It’s so freaking frustrating. I have had a horrible experience.”

The condo owner says she has lived at Twelve Midtown since 2024. She says her mortgage is $2,300, in addition to homeowners association (HOA) fees.

She claims she has not been offered any compensation for her troubles.

“We’re paying $500, $800 in HOA fees, somebody should have stepped in. They went and got generators for the first floor. They have enough money in those accounts to get generators for every floor that was on there and give us service or provide us with living arrangements accommodations. They have a whole other property.”

Though questions remain about who is responsible for the prolonged outage.

11Alive’s Chase Houle reached out to Georgia Power and it said it’s waiting on notification from Twelve Midtown to notify it that power can be restored.

When Chase stopped by the building, management directed inquiries to its corporate office, Homeowners Advantage. 

Chase called and a response was promised, but none was received.

The condo owner says management tells her that power should be restored to her unit on Friday.
