  2. Just what you want This is such a delightful book. It treats each subject generously, telling the details of its existence with carefully observed respect that never lapses into the sentimental. I have never counted the entries, but there are twenty categories, each with many listed and described animals. There are 645 pages [in the 1947 edition], with black and white illustrations by Francis L. Jacques, 49 pages of references, and a comprehensive index.
