A 48-hour countdown on her website set off a social media firestorm, with fans convinced the pop star is teaming up with Pixar, but it disappeared within minutes.
WASHINGTON — A cryptic countdown appeared and disappeared from Taylor Swift’s official website Thursday in the span of roughly 10 minutes — and the internet has not recovered.
The timer went live on taylorswift.com Thursday afternoon, counting down to May 2 at 2 p.m. Eastern. Its backdrop was a blue sky filled with white clouds that fans immediately recognized as the iconic wallpaper from Andy’s bedroom in the “Toy Story” films, and its lettering — yellow with a blue outline — appeared to echo the “Toy Story” logo itself.
Then, almost as quickly as it had appeared, it was gone. The site reverted to its current “Life of a Showgirl” era theme, and neither Swift nor her management said a word.
It was enough to send Swifties into full detective mode.
Screenshots spread across social media at the speed that only a Taylor Swift mystery can travel.
“TAY STORY 5 IS REAL” was trending before the clouds had even disappeared from her homepage. The leading theory among fans: Swift has recorded a song for the soundtrack of “Toy Story 5,” Pixar’s forthcoming sequel.
“Toy Story 5” is set for theatrical release on June 19, 2026 — the exact date that marks the 20th anniversary of Swift’s debut single, “Tim McGraw,” which she released on June 19, 2006, at 16 years old. Fans seized on the overlap as evidence of deliberate planning rather than coincidence.
Observers also noted that Swift may have been dropping hints in plain sight before the website incident. In her most recent public outing on April 27 in New York’s West Village, Swift wore a striped blue dress paired with a canary yellow Dior bag and red heeled sandals — a trio of primary colors that matched the “Toy Story” logo.
Social media piled on with the wordplay Swifties are known for.
“You’re a cowboy like me,” one fan wrote with a picture of Woody.
Another joked about Swift’s track “Wood,” writing, “I ain’t gotta … knock on Woody.”
Someone else paired “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” with a still from the original “Toy Story” film of Buzz with his arm popped out.
“It’s a Toy Story baby just say yes,” another added.
It’s still unclear whether the countdown going live was intentional. It had been taken down by approximately 3:30 p.m. ET Thursday.
A film collaboration would not be unprecedented for Swift. She previously teamed with Zayn Malik for “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” from “Fifty Shades Darker,” co-wrote “Beautiful Ghosts” with Andrew Lloyd Webber for “Cats,” and contributed the original song “Carolina” for “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
There is no official confirmation linking Swift to the film, and her team has not commented.
