Atlanta United vs Chicago Fire FC
Atlanta United Thumps Chicago 4-1
Cisneros Records Hat Trick
Atlanta Latinos Magazine – Atlanta United finally put together a complete game, defeating the Chicago Fire 4-1 Saturday evening at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Ronaldo Cisneros recorded a hat trick in the first half for Atlanta, the first hat trick since Josef Martinez performed the feat in July 2018.
Atlanta jumped to an early lead. Cisneros scored in the 3rd minute to quickly put Atlanta ahead. Both Luiz De Araujo and Marcelino Moreno were credited with an assist.
However, the lead did not last long. Chicago’s Chinonso Offor knotted the game at 1-1 with a sliding goal at the 11’ mark. The goal was unassisted.
Cisneros was not done. He scored two more goals in the 27’ and 37’. One goal was unassisted while the other was assisted by Thiago Almada.
Atlanta’s defense put the clamps down in the second half. Atlanta tacked on an extra goal in stoppage time when Brooks Lennon blasted one in the back of the net.
The other big storyline from the match was the injury to Atlanta’s star defender and captain, Miles Robinson. He suffered a leg injury and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher. In the postgame interview, manager Gonzalo Pineda indicated that Miles had likely hurt his Achilles and would be getting an MRI on it. Atlanta has already lost two players, including captain and goalkeeper Brad Guzan, to season ending Achilles injuries.
Atlanta next plays in the U.S. Open Cup against Nashville on Wednesday. Atlanta’s next MLS match is at home on Sunday, May 15th against New England.
