An 11-year-old from Chattanooga, Tenn., has become a viral hero among Georgia Bulldog fans after he refused to sing “Rocky Top” at his school’s holiday concert this week.
Nolan McGill, in a video captured by his mom, Kelsey, took a stand, literally, during the performance. He crossed his arms and shook his head defiantly as his classmates belted out the University of Tennessee anthem.
“When the school wants you to sing Rocky Top in the holiday performance, but you’re a Dawgs fan,” Kelsey said on Facebook. ” His dad was very proud!”
“I posted the video of Nolan refusing to sing Rocky Top at his school performance on TikTok, and never in a million years would I have predicted that ~24hrs later, that post would have 120.4k views, 10.4k likes, and 717 comments. This has been the most bizarre and mind-blowing day I think I’ve ever had!”
She went on to encourage UGA Nation to share the video “far and wide.”
In an interview with The Athletic, Nolan said, “It’s just a bad song. I’m a Georgia fan. Georgia’s just better than Tennessee.”
Nolan has landed on the right side of the Bulldog-Vols rivalry. UGA has won nine straight, including an overtime thriller this year in Knoxville.
“Raised right,” one Georgia fan posted on Facebook. “Kirby Smart, send this kid a Christmas present,” another wrote on TikTok, one of nearly 1,600 comments as of Friday afternoon.
