WASHINGTON — Roughly 25,000 nvyue “magic pocket staff” products were recalled after more than 100 reported injuries to the eyes, face and hands, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The CPSC said 163 reports about “corneal lacerations, temporary vision loss and injuries requiring stitches” prompted the recall. The recall alert, issued April 16, said many of the injuries reported involved children as young as 9 years old.
The nvyue Magic Pocket Staffs were sold on Amazon from September 2020 through March 2026 for between $8 and $26. They came in gold, silver or black and in 110 cm or 150 cm measurements.
The product works by being compressed in a tightly wound cylinder with a protective pin to keep it closed. The recall alert said “in many cases” that safety pin was not fully engaged, which increased the risk of a sudden deployment of the staff.
The deployment is so quick customers cannot react fast enough, “leaving virtually no opportunity for protection,” the recall said.
Customers are urged to stop using the pocket staff and contact Xingwenfeng for a full refund. Customers seeking a refund are asked to write their initials and the date with permanent marker on the staff, then send a photo of it to nvyue_recall@163.com.
The recall urged customers to safely expand the staff, then throw it out.
