According to the notice, a software error in the audio-video navigation system may cause it to fail while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

WASHINGTON — Nearly 84,000 Genesis vehicles are under recall from Hyundai due to a software error that can cause the dashboard display to fail.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall notice Jan. 16 for certain Genesis models for 2025 and 2026, including the G80, GV80, GV60, GV70, and the electric versions of the G80 and GV70. According to the notice, a software error in the audio-video navigation system may cause it to fail while driving, leaving drivers without access to critical safety information, such as fuel level and speedometer readings.

The defect means the cars violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101, which mandates specific requirements for vehicle controls and displays to ensure drivers have access to essential operating information.

Hyundai is advising owners to disable HD radio until a permanent fix can be applied. The remedy will involve updating the audio-video navigation software, which Genesis plans to deliver through an over-the-air update. Dealerships can also inspect and issue the update free of charge.

The company will begin mailing notification letters to affected vehicle owners Mar. 16. Genesis customers with concerns can contact customer service at 844-340-9741 and reference recall number 031G.

Hyundai has received 237 reports related to the defect, dating from Sept. 26, 2024, until Jan. 2. There are no confirmed crashes, fires, injuries or deaths related to the recall, according to the notice. The recall number is 26V019000.
