The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all flights to and from El Paso International Airport effective Feb. 10 until Feb. 20.
EL PASO, Texas — The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all flights to and from El Paso International Airport for at least 10 days.
The temporary flight restrictions went into effect Feb. 10 and are expected to last through Feb. 20. The FAA cited “special security reasons” for the restriction, according to a notice issued by the agency.
The restriction includes the airspace in and around the airport, but it does not apply to Mexican airspace.
No details were provided as to the nature of the security concern.
El Paso International Airport posted a travel advisory on its social media pages shortly after midnight Mountain time, stating that all commercial, cargo and general aviation flights have been grounded.
“Travelers should contact their airlines to get most up-to-date flight status information,” the advisory stated.
Several military bases are located near the airport, including the White Sands Missile Range, Holloman Air Force Base, Fort Bliss and Fort Bliss-McGregor Range.
