ATLANTA — UPS said in a statement it is expanding one of its Atlanta-area facilities while closing another nearby location as part of a broader effort to modernize its U.S. delivery network.
The company said the changes are part of what it calls the largest network reconfiguration in its history, aimed at creating a more efficient operation and supporting future growth.
In metro Atlanta, UPS plans to expand its “SMART” facility near Fulton County Airport. The site is located at 1100 Fulton Industrial Boulevard NW and uses advanced technology designed to speed up package processing and improve efficiency.
At the same time, the company said it will close its Atlanta hub on Marvin Miller Drive on March 2.
UPS said employees affected by the closure will be offered positions at either the expanded SMART hub or another company facility in the Pleasantdale area.
Company officials said the move is intended to better match resources with future demand while continuing to invest in newer, more advanced operations.
UPS remains one of the largest employers in metro Atlanta, with about 12,000 employees in the region. The company said it plans to support workers through the transition as the changes move forward.
