WASHINGTON — A Costco meal kit sold in 26 states is being recalled because of salmonella concerns.
Anyone who purchased the recalled pre-made meal should not eat it and can return it to a Costco location for a full refund. The recalled meatloaf was sold in select U.S. warehouses between March 2 and March 13.
The recall only includes meatloaf and mashed potato meals with sell by dates between March 5 and March 16 sold in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Costco noted that there haven’t been any illnesses reported in connection with this recall.
Salmonella are bacteria that can make people sick and can cause serious infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.
Common ways people get infected include eating contaminated food, drinking or having contact with contaminated water or touching animals, animal feces and the places animals live and roam.
Some people have no symptoms, but most people with salmonella experience diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Symptoms usually begin six hours to six days after ingesting the bacteria, and most people recover without treatment after four to seven days.
