She is considered the most decorated Black athlete in the history of the Winter Olympics and won her first gold medal during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
ATLANTA — Six-time Olympic medalist Elana Meyers Taylor was recognized for her accomplishments at the Georgia State Capitol on Monday.
Douglasville Native Taylor, 41, has been one of Team USA’s most recognizable winter athletes and helped build the foundation of the U.S. Women’s Bobsled program. She made her debut at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver as a push athlete and won her first of two bronze medals. She later won two silver medals in women’s monobob and her second bronze in the two-woman bobsled during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. According to her Team USA profile, these accomplishments made her the most decorated Black athlete in the history of the Winter Olympics. She won her first gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
Following her return to Georgia, Taylor was honored with a celebration in her hometown on March 21.
During the Georgia House session on Monday, Rep. Kim Alexander for District 56 introduced Taylor, calling her a “multiple-time world champion.” She was also recognized as one of the oldest women to win a medal in an individual event.

“Her perseverance, excellence and leadership serve as an inspiration to citizens across the state and throughout the nation,” said Rep. Alexander. “We commend her for her dedication, her historical contributions and the pride she brings to Georgia and the United States.”
The resolution was read during the session, recognizing and congratulating her on her monumental achievements.
“I just want to say thank you so much for all the support and all the encouragement. It gives me so much pride,” said Taylor. “Thank you so much for having me today at the Capitol and Go Team USA.”
Taylor is the mother of two boys and is married to two-time Olympic alternate Nic Taylor.
