Sony is increasing PlayStation 5 prices worldwide, with U.S. consoles rising by up to $150 as the company points to higher production costs.
WASHINGTON — Sony is raising prices on its PlayStation 5 consoles and accessories worldwide, citing ongoing economic pressures.
The company announced Friday that new prices for the PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal remote player will take effect April 2, 2026.
In the U.S., the standard PS5 will increase to $649.99, up $100. The digital game-only edition will also increase by $100 to $599.99, while the PS5 Pro will see a $150 increase to $899.99. The PlayStation Portal will be priced at $249.99, a $50 price raise.
“We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide,” Sony said in a statement.
The price hikes come amid what Sony described as “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.”
The increases follow rising costs for key components like memory, which has surged in price due to high demand from artificial intelligence data centers and limited supply.
In a February earnings call, Sony addressed the rising memory costs, stating the company was “already in a position to secure the minimum quantity necessary to manage the year-end selling season of next fiscal year.”
Executives in that call also shared that “conditions in the console hardware market during the year-end selling season were more challenging than expected.”
Sony also confirmed similar increases across the U.K., Europe and Japan. The move marks the second time in less than a year the company has raised PS5 prices globally.
