FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — A longtime crossing guard who was hit by a vehicle while helping kids get to school last week has been released from the hospital.
74-year-old David Spatz suffered a head injury after the incident happened in front of Kedron Elementary School on March 23, according to Fayette County Schools.
He was hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital, where family members said he suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed.
Following his release, Spatz’s wife is calling for “positive change” and requesting that school crossing guards receive signs that light up as well as lights on walkways.

The organizer of the community fundraiser is encouraging residents to reach out to their elected leaders about the issue to make this request a reality.
