YouTube is far from the first streaming company who have raised their prices over the last few months.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Streaming giant YouTube announced this week that it is raising the price of a YouTube Premium subscription.
The company plans to raise prices by $2, from $13.99 per month to $15.99 per month. If you’re paying for a family plan, the increase will be even larger. YouTube said they are increasing the price of family plans by $4, from $22.99 per month to $26.99 per month.
According to YouTube, YouTube Premium provides an “ad-free experience across YouTube and allows subscribers background play, offline downloads and full access to YouTube Music Premium.”
YouTube Premium subscribers were told in an email that the price hikes will begin on the June billing statement.
Several subscribers took to social media to show their frustration, with one saying, “I looked at the email and went to cancel. I used to say youtube premium was the only thing I’d keep… Yeah right. I canceled my subscription I’ve had since 2023.”
This isn’t the first change that YouTube has made within the last month. In late March, the company announced they will roll out unskippable ads to those not subscribed to premium. Google AI will decide the length of the ads that are played.
Price increases seem to be a common thing in streaming as of late. In March, Netflix announced its second price increase on all plans in just over a year. Paramount+ raised prices earlier this year, while Disney+ and Hulu, HBO Max and Peacock all raised their prices at the end of 2025. Prime Video is not immune to price increases either. They announced price increases on their ad-free plan earlier this week.
