Isaiah Thomas had just entered Indiana on his cross-country faith walk when a car slammed into him from behind.
RICHMOND, Ind. — Isaiah Thomas describes the moment as “crazy traumatic.”
“I am blessed to be alive,” said Thomas, who is known as @hmblzayy on the streaming platform, Twitch.
He is in the middle of a cross-country faith walk, traveling from Philadelphia to California.
Once he crossed into Indiana, he was traveling west on a highway when a car hit him.
“I was kind of like flying in the air,” Thomas said. “When I landed and got up, I immediately checked everything, and I was like, ‘All right, I’m still able to walk.’ I still was just in pain.”
The entire incident was caught on his livestream.
“It seemed like everything was going in slow motion because I had so many thoughts,” he said. “The cops and stuff, they couldn’t believe that I still was able to walk after that.”

Before the crash, Thomas said, one of his supporters volunteered to drive behind him until his next stop in Lewisville, Indiana.
“I turned around and seen that a guy had smashed into the back of the car that was trailing me,” Thomas said, “which caused the car that was trailing me to actually hit me.”
Looking back, Thomas said the supporter is a guardian angel.
“If they weren’t there and I was walking on that side, yeah, it would have been way worse,” he said.
Thomas spent Tuesday evening at an Indiana hospital. Miraculously, he suffered only a few sprains and bruises.
“I’m glad nothing broke or anything like that,” he said. “I’m feeling sore. I’m blessed. I’m blessed to be here.”

At the time of the crash, Thomas had logged 650 miles of the cross-country trip. He is raising money to build a faith-based trade school for at-risk kids in Philadelphia.
Thomas is a Philly kid, too, he said.
“I just wanted to create an environment for kids to just be able to believe anything is possible,” he said, “and one way to do it is me taking this leap of faith and walking across country.”
Thomas is documenting each step on his social media platforms, including TikTok.
“I’ve always been an advocate for the youth and be a positive role model,” Thomas said. “I’m definitely going to go back to the walk. … I’m just slow walking into it to make sure my body is ready for it.”
