“The Blind Side” actor collapsed at his home in Atlanta, was rushed to the hospital, and was eventually placed on life support.
ATLANTA — Actor Quinton Aaron opened up about a life-threatening medical emergency that happened at the beginning of this year and a personal revelation that surfaced during his recovery in an interview with People last week.
Aaron, best known for portraying Michael Oher in “The Blind Side,” said he suffered a spinal stroke in January 2026 that left him hospitalized in critical condition. As he began to recover, he also learned unexpected information about his marriage, adding emotional strain to an already serious situation, People reported.
The 41-year-old Aaron collapsed at his home in the Atlanta area and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors worked to stabilize him. His condition worsened, and he was eventually placed on life support, according to his family.
Aaron later experienced a spinal stroke — a rare and serious condition that can lead to paralysis — and remained in a coma for several days as doctors treated him.
He has since begun the recovery process but faces a lengthy rehabilitation.
While still recovering, Aaron said he discovered new information about his marriage. He said the woman he believed he legally married in 2024 had not finalized a previous divorce, he told People. Aaron said he had been told the divorce was complete, but later learned it had not been legally finalized.

His wife, Margarita DeLeon, has disputed parts of that account. According to People, she said she believed her previous marriage had already ended and was unaware it had not been officially completed.
Tensions arose during Aaron’s hospitalization as family members became more involved in his care, People said. Relatives reportedly limited access to him while he was receiving treatment after learning about the unresolved marital situation.
Aaron continues to recover and undergo rehabilitation, with doctors indicating the process could take months or longer. He said that he remains optimistic about regaining mobility and believes he will walk again.
Despite a year marked by serious health challenges and personal upheaval, Aaron said he is focused on his recovery and moving forward.
