WASHINGTON — NBCUniversal is ending production of first-run syndicated shows including “Access Hollywood” and talk shows like “The Steve Wilkos Show” and “Karamo,” according to reports.
“Access Hollywood,” an entertainment newsmagazine launched by NBC in 1996, will produce original episodes through September, Variety reported on Friday.
“Karamo” and “Steve Wilkos” have already wrapped production, with original episodes airing through the summer. Singer Kelly Clarkson announced in February that her daytime talk show, produced by NBCUniversal, will end after its seventh season.
“NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations,” said Frances Berwick, chairman of Bravo and head of Peacock unscripted, who has oversight of the first-run syndication unit. “The company will remain active in the distribution of our existing program library and other off-network titles, while winding down production of our first-run shows. These shows have provided audiences with great talk and entertainment content for many years and we’re very proud of the teams behind them.”
“Access Hollywood,” hosted by Mario Lopez, Kit Hoover, Scott Evans and Zuri Hall, is marking its 30th season.
“Karamo,” hosted by two-time Emmy Award winner Karamo Brown, is in its fourth season. “The Steve Wilkos Show” is in its 19th season in national syndication.
