11Alive found at least three flights from Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara into Hartsfield-Jackson were canceled Sunday, including two Delta flights and one Frontier flight.
Delta Air Lines wrote on its website: “Due to civil unrest in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, travel to, from, or through the destinations listed below may be affected. Check flight status frequently for up-to-the-minute information about your flight plans, or get updates sent directly to your mobile device or by email with One-Time Notification.“
Lori Stephens, Owner and CEO of Sojourney Travel has several clients in the Riviera Maya area right now, so she’s closely watching what unfolds.
“We watch all the airlines, we have connections with the airlines, so we listen for any information from the airlines as far as cancellations go, and making adjustments to our clients’ schedules as needed,” Stephens said. “But thankfully, as far as we know, there’s not a lot of activity going on in the Riviera Maya area yet, but we are monitoring it almost hourly.”
Stephens recommends travelers enroll in the State Department’s STEP program, which sends safety alerts and helps the embassy contact you in an emergency.
