Artemis II astronauts wake up to songs they picked for the mission. Here’s their playlist

WASHINGTON — The crew on the Artemis II mission are waking up each day to songs that they selected for the historic voyage. 

The mission that took them around the moon is on track to last 10 days from liftoff to splashdown. 

The four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft broke the record for the farthest distance from Earth humans have ever traveled before during their lunar flyby. The record was previously held by the crew of the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. 

The wakeup songs are a longstanding tradition in space exploration for more than 50 years, according to NASA. 

Here are the songs astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen have woken up to so far. 

• Day 1: “Sleepyhead” by Young & Sick
• Day 2: “Green Light (feat. Andre 3000)” by John Legend and Andre 3000
• Day 3: “In a Daydream” by Freddy Jones Band
• Day 4: “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan
• Day 5: “Working Class Heroes (Work)” by CeeLo Green
• Day 6: “Good Morning” by Mandisa and TobyMac
• Day 7: “Tokyo Drifting” by Glass Animals and Denzel Curry 
• Day 8: “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie

Several bands and musicians, whose songs were selected, commented on NASA’s post about the playlist on Instagram. 

“This is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life ever,” Glass Animals said. 

“Thank you sooooo much for having me aboard!! My life will never be the same,” Young & Sick wrote.
